On a recent trip to Istanbul, Turkey, President Becker signed five Memoranda of Understanding, or MOUs, with top universities: Marmara University, Koc University, Ozyegin University, Bahcesehir University, and Bogazici University. Each MOU paves the way for negotiations on specific collaborations to take place at the college and department levels.
Georgia State’s Applied Linguistics department has had a solid program-specific agreement with Bogazici since 1998, focusing on graduate student exchange.
In addition to visiting universities, Associate Provost Jun Liu and Profs. Volkan Topalli and Erdal Tekin visited two of Istanbul’s elite high schools, Uskudar Academy and American Collegiate Institute, where they signed letters of intent. Georgia State will work with the high schools to recruit their top students.
This strategic trip served to further advance toward Georgia State’s goals to increase study abroad participation, faculty exchanges, international recruitment, and collaborative research. In the coming months, deans and chairs will begin to establish specific initiatives.
