Confucius Institute hosts educators for Discover China’s Educational System Program in Beijing and Shanghai

Georgia State Confucius Institute administration hosted Georgia State faculty, and local middle and high school educators and administrators, for the inaugural Discover China’s Educational System program in Beijing and Shanghai.  Sponsored by Hanban, the Confucius Institute’s headquarters, education administrators and faculty were invited to apply for the opportunity to explore the educational system of China, deepen participants understanding of Chinese culture and contemporary China, as well as promoting a shared cross-cultural experience.

During their ten days in China, the cohort participated in a visit to a local middle/high school, workshops, and lectures.  Educator workshops included meetings with the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange at the Beijing Language and Culture Institute (BLCU) where they overviewed the program’s field research and studies opportunities.  The middle and high school visit in Beijing consisted of observations of classes.

Before heading to Shanghai, the delegation enjoyed a visit to Hanban, the Confucius Institute Headquarters, participated in a traditional tea ceremony at BLCU, and met to present their reflections and findings from their Beijing visit.

In Beijing and Shanghai, the educators also visited unique historical and modern cultural attractions including, the Summer Palace, the Great Wall of China, Xintiandi and Lujiazui Financial Center, and the Forbidden City, where they experienced magnificent and exquisite Chinese architecture and the profound impact brought about by China’s extensive history and culture.
