Free Passport Program *Applications open Sept. 5, 2023 - April 12, 2024
Eligibility requirements:
- Be enrolled as a Georgia State University student at the time of submitting your “Free” Passport Program application
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Never have previously had or applied for a U.S. passport
- Complete the “Free” Passport Program application through the GSU Study Abroad Website

Virtual exchange globalizes the curriculum, introduces students to an interconnected world, and promotes digital literacy. There are many compelling reasons to make virtual exchange an integral part of your course and curriculum design. Here are our top ten reasons to integrate virtual exchange into your courses.

Students who earn the Global Scholar Distinction are recognized by Georgia State University for their development of global competence: the skills, knowledge and awareness that enhance the ability to succeed in a global environment. Global Scholars can communicate across cultures, think critically about the world, adapt to new and unfamiliar situations, and market global skills to employers. The Global Scholar Distinction is open to all majors in all colleges. It opens doors to rewarding global career opportunities at home and abroad.
Short-term programming for international students aims to immerse participants in U.S. culture and enable them to experience U.S higher education. Georgia State Students are also encouraged to take part in classes, workshops, and excursions with their international peers to gain global competency skills through cross-cultural learning.
Summer Institute

- Students experience American higher education and culture. Students live in on-campus housing and attend Georgia State classes.
Fall / Spring International Programs

The Asian Studies Center at GSU’s Global Studies Institute promotes education, research and Asia-focused international exchange. Interdisciplinary in focus, the Center aims to advance knowledge and raise greater awareness of political, economic, social and cultural developments in Asia among the GSU community and Asian Americans in Atlanta and Georgia as a whole.
The Atlanta Global Studies Center (AGSC) builds international awareness, global competence, and advanced language capacity in higher education, the private & public sector, and the K-12 community to empower the region’s global agenda.
The Center for Hellenic Studies at Georgia State is the only such program in the southeast and is unique for the wide range of it sponsors. The Center imagines the Greek phenomenon in the very broadest terms, both historically and geographically
Since April 2010, the U.S. Department of Education has designated CIBER at Georgia State University as a national resource center in International Business (IB). This distinction recognizes the Center’s established expertise in IB, and makes a significant investment to further advance IB education, research and practice.
As the language student support center at Georgia State for more than 20 years, their mission is to provide resources and support services to help students achieve their language goals in formal studies and personal enrichment.
The Center for Media Education (CIME) is dedicated to advancing cooperation, networking, and understanding among media professionals, scholars, educators, and students through research, education, and service. CIME was established at Georgia State University in the Communication Department in 1995 and has continued to create a forum to promote international and intercultural exchanges of information, perspectives, ideas, research, publications and visits. Since its inception, CIME has expanded services and programs through global partnerships with the United Nations, the U.S. State Department, CNN and numerous universities and professional media organizations throughout the world.
The Center for Urban Language Teaching and Research works to enhance the global skills opportunities of urban and underrepresented learners and educators. CULTR’s mission is to promote and enhance the global skills opportunities for all learners and educators to establish diverse, enriching, and successful career pathways. CULTR has created a unique identity around serving “Languages For All!” through initiatives supporting language proficiency, cultural competence, and professional development initiatives across urban and underrepresented communities.
Cultures, Communities & Inclusion is made up of five departments: Black Student Achievement, the Multicultural Center, Office of the Dean of Students, Latinx Student Services and Outreach (LASSO) and the International Student Associations Council (ISAC).
As an association committed to student diversity, we acknowledge cultural, academic and professional backgrounds of our students. We work towards enlarging our international network of not only students but also individuals dedicated to promoting mutual understanding, civic engagement and community outreach.
International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) is an office in the Division of Student Engagement and as such, supports the Panther Experience by fostering cultural engagement and inclusion.
The Middle East Studies Center at Georgia State University promotes greater understanding of the Middle East, its diverse cultures, languages, and people. The MESC serves Georgia State University students, faculty, and staff as well as the Atlanta community, the state of Georgia, and the world.
