SUMMER SESSIONS

Join us for an opportunity to live and study in the city of Atlanta and experience engaging cultural activities. Become a Georgia State Panther! Build your global network while gaining hands-on learning experiences!

Georgia State University is located in dynamic downtown Atlanta, offering students an attractive opportunity to live and study in a city rich in diversity, history, commerce, entertainment, and more.

During Summer Sessions, participants spend two weeks engaging in field-based seminars and exploring two distinctly different U.S. cities, Atlanta, Georgia and Pensacola, Florida. Participants also get the opportunity to spend time with Georgia State students for a chance to learn about what life is like for locals.

Tracks

Georgia State will offer the following Summer Session Tracks (July 18 – August 1, 2024).

Biology

Introductory Biology and English Language

Students will learn about various aspects of biological research, and have the opportunity to visit the museum at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention headquarters. This museum showcases the historical involvement of the Centers for Disease Control in promoting the advancement of public health. Students will also have the chance to participate in culture and language discussions with Georgia State University students to learn about common cultural practices and speech in the United States.

Cost

The total cost of $2,960 includes seminars, housing, program fee, local transportation, cultural excursions, a flexible meal plan, and Florida trip. Also, we will add a $100 refundable housing security deposit.

English Language & Cultural Seminars

The Intensive English Program is delighted to include a series of English and Cultural Seminars as an integral part of the English Summer Session. Each seminar includes useful language skills and practice. Additionally, students receive hands-on opportunities to learn about life in Atlanta and different aspects of U.S. culture, such as music, movies, sports, and art. We will meet Georgia State students and Atlanta residents while learning about effective communication and cultural awareness during our adventures in the city.

Entrepreneurship

Introductory Entrepreneurship and English language

Georgia State University’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute has paired up with the Office of International Initiatives to present a comprehensive program that allows students the chance to participate in a series of entrepreneurial seminars. The hands-on seminars are designed to offer students the educational leverage to execute on their ideas, build their businesses, and seize the opportunities when presented, even in uncertain times. Students will also have the chance to participate in culture and language discussions with Georgia State University students to learn about common cultural practices and speech in the United States.

Your Summer Session Includes

Meals & Accommodations

Stay in safe and modern on-campus housing at the University Commons.

University Commons, a 4.2 acre complex of four apartment buildings ranging from eight to 15 stories, houses approximately 2,000 Georgia State University students, primarily designated space for upper-class students.

The program covers 14 nights starting on July 18. Students may arrive prior to the program date with an extra charge of $41 per night. The earliest day to check-in to University Commons is July 16. Click here to pay for extra nights.

Refundable Housing Fee: Each student will be required to pay a refundable $100 housing fee. If the student’s room is kept clean, then the $100 will be refunded after departure. The housing deposit can be paid here.

Throughout the Summer Sessions program, students will participate in the following:

Visit the largest aquarium in the Western Hemisphere, featuring a dolphin show, sea lion show, 4-D movies, the world’s biggest fish, and much more!

Florida Trip

Enjoy a 3-day trip to Pensacola, Florida with costs COVERED by your Summer Sessions program costs!
Dates: July 27 – July 29, 2024

You will be staying in a beachfront hotel, giving you quick access to the ocean anytime!

  • You will be placed in a double room with 2 queen beds and 3 roommates (4 people in total per room).
  • Single room option is available with an additional cost of $630. Click here to pay.
  • Many restaurants are located around the block.

Throughout the 3-day trip, we will visit attractions that are covered by your Summer Sessions program fees. If you are participating in the Summer Institute, you will be required to pay additional fees to participate in the Florida Trip. Click here for more information.

Pensacola Beach

Enjoy the clear waters of Pensacola Beach while swimming, playing volleyball, or throwing a frisbee (equipment will be provided by Georgia State).

Dolphin Boat Tour (subject to change based on availability)

Have fun on a 2-hour boat tour, discovering dolphins in Pensacola’s clear waters!

Downtown Pensacola

Walk around downtown Pensacola to see different forms of America’s history, such as Veteran’s Memorial Park.

The Global Ambassador Program

About the Global Ambassador Program (GAP) – Special Programs

GAP  is co-managed by the Study Abroad and the Special Programs units of the Office of International Initiatives.

GAP groups incoming international students with knowledgeable Georgia State students. It’s designed to allow Georgia State students (buddies) and students from around the world the chance to grow their global networks and befriend someone different from themselves. Historically, students have created life-long friendships by communicating before the program, hanging out throughout the program, and even visiting each other later in life.

Cultural Events

Students attend various cultural events around campus with their groups. Each event provides opportunities to share different foods, play new games, sing karaoke, and more.

Local Excursions

There is plenty of time built in to explore Downtown Atlanta and all it has to offer. The excursions give students a chance to enjoy key aspects of Atlanta’s culture while talking about their own interests, ideas, and questions.

Virtual Connections

Students that participate in our virtual program still have many opportunities to connect with their buddies at Georgia State. There will be many activities for students to participate in, such as a virtual cooking demonstration, cultural exchange dialogues, virtual game days, and more!

Next Steps

  • Application Deadline – April 15, 2024
  • 7 days after being accepted to Summer Sessions, all participants must pay a non-refundable $100 deposit, which will be applied to the total cost of the program. The deposit is refundable only if participants secure a visa appointment promptly but cannot obtain a visa or if the program is canceled.
  • Full Payment Deadline – May 15, 2024

Cancelation / Refund Schedule

  • Before June 1st: Full refund of any money you have paid (MINUS a $100 non-refundable fee).
  • No refunds will be issued after June 1st.
  • If the program is canceled or a participant secures a visa appointment promptly but cannot obtain a visa, then a full refund will be issued.
